Astronomia
Canis

The Astronomia Investigation continued. It was, for the detectives assigned to it, a frustrating and tedious affair. Hundreds had theories that they were only too eager to share with the team as to how these transformations were being performed. Unfortunately, theories weren't what the team needed. They needed witnesses or evidence ... anything concrete that could be used to track the perpetrator of these transformations. Unfortunately, witnesses (though quite a few) all proved to be less than useful. Every lead turned up a dead end. It was investigative work at its worst. The cases continued to become colder and, all the while, new transformations would turn up.

"Pet Store on main," was all her partner said when she answered the phone.

The attached message gave the address and Hilda dashed to her car. Her partner didn't need to say anything more. There had obviously been another transformation and, likely as not, another transformation to add to their growing list of unsolved transformations.

"One's in the back room, the other is outside in the walking area."

Hilda crossed the police tape and was led the way to the back room where a woman, or at least half of one, was sitting on the floor. The rest of her body was a large Doberman. She was totally naked and her clothes were nowhere about. Every shred of evidence was, once again, missing. Around her neck was a dog collar and another of the gold medallions that had been on the other victims. She smiled as Hilda came in.

"I'm Hilda. I'm one of the people investigating these transformations."
"Laura," the dogtaur introduced herself.
"Can you tell me what happened?"
"My partner and I were locking up for the night. Last night. Gina, my partner, was outside walking one of the dogs. The doors had all been locked but she had a key to get back in. I didn't think anything of the sound of the walk area door opening. I called out to Gina that I had cashed out and the we could head home. He grabbed me from behind."
"Did you get a look at him?"
"No. He was behind me. He jumped me and forced me to the ground. I felt strange and felt something hard being pushed along my leg."
"He raped you?"
"I don't know exactly. Everything went grey about then. I woke up this morning early and called you folks."
"You've had no trouble getting around?"

Hilda was a bit surprised. Most of the other transformees had been clumsy when they first started to use their distorted bodies.

"I did for the first few steps and I'm still a bit clumsy."
"Oh. Can we do a rape kit on you? It would really help nail this guy."
"I don't think he raped me. I don't feel any pain anywhere. But if it will help, sure."
"We'll get one of the officers to transport you to the Crime Lab. They'll take your complete statement down there."
"Okay."

Hilda looked at her partner who shook his head. His interrogation had been equally fruitless. She seemed too happy with her transformation. All of them had been. Almost like it had been fate or destiny that they ended up dolphins or bulls or dogs. He pointed to a back door.  On the lawn in the walking area was a large spaniel with a woman's head and breasts. She, too, was smiling and happy. Hilda wondered what drugs had been used to get the victims so happy so quickly. None of them regretted their transformation even months afterwards.

"I'm Hilda," Hilda introduced herself as she got down on on her knees to be on the same level as the victim.
"Gina," the dog-woman replied.
"Can you tell me anything about what happened?"
"I was out walking one of the spaniels. They each get a walk before we close up and again in the morning. There was a sound towards the back of the run so I went to investigate. We've had a few kids try to break in to steal animals or play with them. They've not succeeded yet though. The run is the only open place and the animals aren't kept in the run after we close up. Anyway, I heard a sound like something large falling from the top of the wall and dashed over. It was dark in that corner ... always has been. We'll have to do something about that. Someone or something grabbed me from behind and snapped a collar around my neck. Next thing I knew I was on the ground with whoever it was ripping my clothes off. I remember a strange kind of tingling sensation and then nothing until this morning. The spaniel is missing as far as I can tell though."
"I don't suppose there's any kind of security camera?" asked Hilda.
"Oh sure. Should have caught the whole thing. Though it was kinda dark, you know."
"We can pull up an image if there's anything to see," Hilda assured her.
"It's a 24 hour tape so it should be okay. The keys are in my desk drawer and the tape machine is in back of the dog kennels."
"Every other victim has been raped. We'd like to do a rape kit on you, if you'll agree."
"Oh sure. Whatever is needed to catch him."

Gina sat down and began to scratch behind one ear. She seemed more canine than human at times. Hilda excused herself and went for the tape.  Later that day, they got the word from CSI that they'd enhanced the tape as much as was possible. Hilda rushed to the CSI lab and viewed the video. It was grainy (as might be expected from an over processed image) but it definitely showed something. The tape showed a human-sized blob fall from the top of the wall as Gina approached. The blob was distorted in a strange way though. The CSI tech indicated that it didn't appear to have legs, just a blob. When it got to the ground though, it elongated into a human form. They couldn't see a face or any identifying details on the video though. The man (if it was a man) pressed himself against a dark wall and seemed almost to blend into it. The CSI tech said he didn't think that it was clothing or camouflage. The man just seemed to become part of the wall. When Gina approached, the man-in-the-wall sprang out towards Gina, the collar with its medallion clearly visible. The hand that held the collar though seemed incomplete like it was covered in glue or rubber. The collar was snapped about the Gina's neck far faster than anyone could have believed possible. It was only after the collar was in place and the hand withdrew that Hilda noticed something. The hand was connected to the collar by some kind of string tendril that stretched quite long before snapping and vanishing into the collar and hand as if it had never been. Gina collapsed to all fours and the man touched the dog, covering it in a dark material. The dog shaped blob was quickly drawn into the man's body. The man then began to strip Gina and, as expected from past attacks, began to rape her. The camera caught all the details, as with each thrust, Gina became more and more dog-like. Finally, with Gina in her current form, he groaned and pulled back. Once again the strange tendrils connected him to Gina. These soon stretched and snapped. He turned towards the camera and Hilda hoped to get a look at the face. Instead of a human face, though, the face looked like some kind of mannequin. It seemed incomplete though still more-or-less human. The creature (for Hilda no longer thought it a man) then went to the door of the shop only to discover it locked. It searched Gina's torn clothes until it found a set of key and entered the shop.

"I don't think we're dealing with anything normal, are we?" asked the CSI tech.
"I doubt that thing is even human."

She took the elevator back upstairs and met her partner as he was returning from another crime scene. She quickly filled him in on what the tape had held.

"If it's not from Earth, how can we find it?"
"I have no idea," Hilda shrugged. "But we have to try."
